Toe River Base Camp is taking shape in Bakersville, NC as a primitive, tent-only campground for outdoor enthusiasts, families, and groups who want a simpler place to camp and spend time together.
Campsites are walk-in, with vehicles remaining in the designated parking area rather than at individual sites. Pull wagons and wheelbarrows will be available to help move tents, coolers, and camping gear between parking and camp.
From the campground, Mitchell County and the Toe River Valley become the larger playground — small towns, mountain roads, fishing, paddling, hiking, and nearby high-country destinations.
